Report on the Outcome Study of 'Sexual Violence - Prevention and Empowerment Project for Girls & Boys'

In Hong Kong, the issue of sexual violence has drawn the attention of government officials, school administrators, and social service providers. Statistics show that the trend of sexual violence cases is rising. The number of newly reported sexual violence cases in 2012 and 2013 was 238 and 681 respectively, but the number of newly reported sexual violence cases in 2016 was 861. This shows a gradual increase in the number of sexual violence cases in Hong Kong.

To counter the increasing sexual violence cases, the Association Concerning Sexual Violence Against Women (ACSVAW) has launched a prevention and empowerment project for students studying in secondary school on the issue of sexual violence. This project involves a 4-session workshop which aims at empowering the student participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent sexual violence. The present study which was commissioned by the ACSVAW has evaluated the outcome of the project delivered by the ACSVAW in secondary schools. Since the evaluation project focused on the outcome, a set of pre-workshop questionnaires and post-workshop questionnaires was designed to measure the changes within the students. Eighty-three pre-workshop questionnaires and 55 post-workshop questionnaires were collected. In addition, four focus group sessions were conducted to collect the views of the workshop participants on the effectiveness and improvement of the workshop.
