RainLily collaborates with Meta to launch Hong Kong version of StopNCII.org
RainLily, a sexual violence crisis centre in Hong Kong today (21st June) has partnered with Meta to launch the Hong Kong version of StopNCII.org, a secure and private tool for victim-survivors of image-based sexual violence to proactively stop the proliferation of their non-consensually shared intimate images online.
According to RainLily, the number of cases that involve Image-Based Sexual Violence (IBSV) has increased for two consecutive years in Hong Kong. When someone’s intimate images are shared without their permission, the emotional distress and loss of control they experience can be devastating.
StopNCII features hash-generating technology that assigns a unique hash value (a numerical code) to an image, creating a secure digital fingerprint. The original image never leaves the person's device and is never shared with StopNCII or the tool's participating platforms. Through StopNCII, people over the age of 18 can proactively prevent their intimate images from being shared on participating tech platforms including Facebook and Instagram.
StopNCII is an option for those experiencing IBSV who also meet the following requirements:
You are the person who is in the image
You are 18 or older at the time the image was taken
You are in possession of the image or video
You are nude, semi-nude, or engaging in a sexual act in the image/video
StopNCII.org is first launched and operated by the UK Revenge Porn Helpline in December 2021. The addition of RainLily as a new local partner and the launch of StopNCII.org in Traditional Chinese (Hong Kong) makes the service more accessible to Hong Kong users.
