Association Concerning Sexual Violence Against Women & RainLily Announce Doris Chong as New Executive Director

The Association Concerning Sexual Violence Against Women (the Association) and RainLily announce Doris Chong Tsz-Wai as the new Executive Director. Doris will lead the organisations in her new position from 1 March 2023. Linda Wong Sau-Yung, the co-founder of the Association and the long-serving Executive Director of the Association and RainLily, will take up a new role as the organisations’ Consultant.

Doris Chong is a Registered Social Worker and a Certified Social Work Supervisor. Having served the field for 20 years, she has extensive experience both in frontline service and service management. She was RainLily’s Counsellor, and subsequently Senior Counsellor, from 2008 to 2016. She later joined Hong Kong Federation of Women’s Centres, and served a managerial role as Service Supervisor from 2016 to 2022, particularly in planning and promoting the development of the Federation, managing the setting up of two service centres and overseeing various services. Doris specialises in working with women experiencing violence and mental distress, and has thorough understanding of gender policies, as well as sexual violence victim-survivor support. Doris’s past work and experience embodies and aligns with the organisations’ core values. She will lead the organisations with conviction and competence, carrying on our missions and safeguarding our legacies.

The Board would like to thank Linda for her dedication and contribution for over 26 years, not only to the organisations but also to the advancement of women's rights in Hong Kong. The Association was founded by Linda and three other co-founders in 1997 in response to Hong Kong’s then lack of support services for victim-survivors and strategic policies against sexual violence. The team subsequently established RainLily in 2000, Hong Kong’s first sexual violence crisis centre, to provide assistance to people who have experienced sexual violence, and work with victim-survivors to speak up for their rights. Since Linda had been appointed as Executive Director in 2007, she had led the organisations to reach new heights with her open-minded leadership. She had worked continuously with various stakeholders to advocate for law and policy reforms in sexual offences, while connecting with communities to improve the situations faced by victim-survivors as they seek justice within the institutions and beyond.

The Board wishes Doris all the best in leading the organisations to a new chapter, and looks forward to working with Linda in her new capacity.
