A Hundred Islands – Stephen Wong × RainLily Furoshiki Charity Set

Have you ever felt lonely, as if you were living on an island? Even on a secluded island, there's a sense of connection under the same sky. Just like in Stephen Wong's ‘A Hundred Islands’ series, the islands might seem isolated, but they share the same sky. Similarly, like the petals of RainLily's flower, we may face our traumas individually, yet we can still journey towards healing together.

Stephen Wong and RainLily present this Furoshiki, a gentle reminder that even in solitude, you can find peace and connection under the sky. It can be displayed on your wall, accompany you on your travels as a bag, carry your picnic with friends, or serve as a thoughtful gift wrap.

The selected postcards from the series depict 7 solitary islands and 100 connected islands. RainLily fosters a supportive environment where survivors can support each other, face their challenges side by side, seek justice, and build a compassionate foundation within our society.

A Hundred Islands

Landscape painter Stephen Wong created 100 small islands, and on each of them, there is a person either camping, entertaining oneself or facing loneliness. In fact, since the pandemic, everyone has become more aware that they are living on an isolated island-like situation. Under different circumstances and conditions, some people meditate, some are upset, some are having fun, and some are at ease; but even when we are disconnected, everyone still shares the same sky and sunset.

Stephen Wong

I feel that painting landscapes is like opening one window after another. Through the windows, you can have a sense of breathing. RainLily is dedicated to support survivors of sexual violence, and it is also opening a window for them.

Stephen WONG Chun Hei
Born in 1986, Hong Kong

Currently based in Hong Kong, Stephen Wong is a visual artist whose main medium has been painting. His artistic journey began in 2008, since he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Department of Fine Arts at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Natural landscapes are the key motif throughout Wong’s paintings. His use of vivid palettes of saturated colours translate his intuitive imagination and visual impressions from his hiking trips into dream-like paintings. His works emit a mysterious sense of being familiar yet uncannily surrealistic, prompting viewers to reflect on the dynamics in human-nature relationships.

Furoshiki

Originated in Japan, furoshiki were initially used to wrap clothes for trips to the public baths. Over time, they evolved into a versatile everyday item, serving as gift wrapping, tote bags, tablecloths, or picnic blankets - their uses are vast.
