One in seven women in Hong Kong has experienced sexual violence in their lifetime. Behind the numbers, is a profound magnitude of secondary trauma, collectively experienced and re-experienced by victim-survivors in every attempt to disclose their trauma.
Some wounds are invisible on survivors of sexual assault, some are suppressed and buried for a long time. Showing pitiful faces, revealing the scars and tears as they are, is often considered the easiest way to tug at the heartstrings. However, RainLily strives to show the vitality of victim-survivors, and present their process of recovery and empowerment.
RainLily is Hong Kong's first sexual violence crisis centre, we are devoted in accompanying victim-survivors in their path of seeking justice within and beyond the legal system.
We are grateful to dentsu International Hong Kong for supporting and sponsoring the #OneInSenven campaign.
ONLINE EXHIBITION
Stories Beyond the Numbers
11 survivors of sexual violence, 11 objects that narrate their stories beyond the statistics. #OneInSeven: Stories Beyond the Numbers explores these objects as a carrier of memories, experiences, and emotions.
The exhibition held at 480.0 Gender & Art Space in spring and summer of 2021 worked with eleven RainLily service users to tell their stories through objects.
The online version of this exhibition is now available on the Association's website.
